Learn To Play Guitar

I am writing this short article for people starting out and was to learn to play guitar. I usually break this down into 4 sections which makes it easier for new students when they learn to play guitar. Most newbie’s get overwhelmed at first they think “oh man chords, scales, rhythm, strumming etc…”

Learn To Play Guitar Section 1:

Learning your basic open chords, this can get frustrating at first because it feels like your fingers are not doing what you want them to do. It’s completely natural and after a few weeks of switching between chords your hand and fingers will start forming the shapes a lot easier. (I am writing an article with tips on learning guitar chords next)

Learn To Play Guitar Section 2:

Finger exercises and learning the notes of the guitar strings, this is most commonly done by learning the Major Scale. When you learn to play guitar you need to learn the basics of scales. Not only does this teach music theory but what it really does in the beginning is help build strength, dexterity and accuracy.

A lot is students get board and feel that it get mundane to play the same scale over and over again, so what we do in the 14 day challenge is make the scales musical. This makes it much more enjoyable for new guitar students because you feel as though you are making music and You Are!

Learn To Play Guitar Section 3:

Learning and understanding rhythm, most newbie’s overlook the importance of understanding rhythm guitar. We accomplish this in many different ways with chords and without chords which lets us concentrate just on the right hand. I will post a separate article with some tips on that as well.

Learn To Play Guitar Section 4:

Learn easy guitar songs and using your free time. This is the last section you work on when you learn to play guitar. Learning a few easy guitar songs will keep you motivated to keep practicing. Free time can be whatever you’d like e.g. learning songs, practicing soloing, writing your own songs, jamming with friends or backing tracks etc…

I consider this to be an extremely important section when you learn to play guitar because after all it’s why you started in the first place right? You wanted to make music!
