Acoustic Guitar Lesson
Acoustic Guitar Lesson
9 minutes a day to stronger, more flexible and smoother chord changes.
The hardest part about acoustic guitar is that the strings are thicker than electric guitar strings which makes them harder to press down and causes beginners to get frustrated. In this acoustic guitar lesson we are going to go over a few simpler warm-ups that you can do each day to build strength in your fingers.
I think most beginner guitar players overlook the power of the basic open chords. What do I mean by that? Well you would be surprised the work out your fingers can get just by holding an open chord for 45 seconds at a time. It’s like Pilates for guitar…
Acoustic guitar lesson exercise 1 – E Major Open Chord
Hold this chord for 45 seconds then release for 15 seconds and repeat 3 times. Let’s not leave the right hand out of this exercise, so pick each string involved in this chord. In this cause it’s all six strings. So pick each string with down strokes then pick the strings going back up to the 6th string with up strokes letting each string ring.
Acoustic guitar lesson exercise 2 – A Major Open Chord
Same as above and with each exercise after releasing the chords; shake your hand out and make a fist before repeating. This helps to build muscle memory in the left hand as well allows blood to flow.
Acoustic guitar lesson exercise 3 – D Major Open Chord
Note: In this acoustic guitar lesson I don’t want you to over do it… If you feel pain STOP! Some soreness of the finger tips is normal and very common and as you build calluses this will go away.
